<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processor and an information processing method that enable a user to suitably install or update application software that operates on a peripheral device such as an image forming apparatus, while increasing security levels and eliminating the necessity of complex operation on the part of the user. <P>SOLUTION: From a file distribution server 107 or the like, a management PC 103a serving as the information processor inputs a file containing object data to be applied to a peripheral device such as an image forming apparatus 101. A file determination function 402 is used to determine whether or not the object data is applicable to the peripheral device. When it is determined to be applicable, the object data are extracted from the file using an application data extraction function 404.
