PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform satisfactory magnetic transfer to a perpendicular magnetic recording medium with respect to a magnetic transfer method and a magnetic transfer apparatus for a recording medium having a perpendicular magnetic recording layer as a magnetic layer. SOLUTION: A magnetic field generating means is used which consists of a main magnetic pole 11 which is made of a first core 6 that has an end face 6a having a prescribed area and an auxiliary magnetic pole 12 which is made of a second core 7 that has an end face 7a having a relatively larger area compared with the end face 6a of the first core 6 and a coil 8 being wound on the second core 7. A patterned master carrier 3 which carries a desired transfer pattern on its surface and a magnetic recording medium 2 having a perpendicular magnetic recording layer 22 are made into a superimposed body by adhering the surface of the master carrier 3 and the surface of the perpendicular magnetic recording layer 22 side of the magnetic recording medium 2. Then, the superimposed body is inserted between the main magnetic pole 11 and the auxiliary magnetic pole 12 so that the master carrier 3 is positioned at the main magnetic pole 11 side, a current is caused to flow in the coil 8 and the transfer pattern is transferred to the perpendicular magnetic recording layer 22 as a perpendicularly magnetized pattern by perpendicular magnetic field Hdu1 being generated in the vicinity of the main magnetic pole 11 by the current that flows in the coil 8.
