PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy recovery device capable of changing its use mode in response to an operation state of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This energy recovery device 20 has a columnar pipe 21 sealed with a working fluid, a heat accumulator 25 in the columnar pipe, a catalytic device 12 as a high temperature heat exchanger arranged on one end side of the heat accumulator 25 and using waste heat of the internal combustion engine 1 as a heat source, a low temperature heat exchanger 27 arranged on the other end side of the heat accumulator 25, and a diaphragm 30 for generating a sound wave by transmitting pulsation of exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine 1 to the working fluid in the columnar pipe 1. The device selectively performs an engine mode of generating thermal acoustic self-excited vibration of the working fluid by forming a temperature gradient between both end parts of the heat accumulator 25 by the catalytic device 12 and the low temperature heat exchanger 27, and a heat pump mode of moving heat to the catalytic device 12 from the low temperature heat exchanger 27 via the heat accumulator 25 by the sound wave generated by the diaphragm 30.
