PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in output; and to reduce cost, by reducing an operation sound in a valve system of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A tappet member 17 installed on an adjusting screw 31, is displaceably supported by the adjusting screw, and is repulsively energized to the valve stem 3a side by a second spring 32. Displacement to the opposite side of the valve stem side is stopped by allowing the immersed end of the tappet member to abut on a bottom surface 31b of a hole 31a arranged in the adjusting screw. Up to actually starting a valve lift, since the tappet member for deflecting the second spring can be displaced and impact between the tappet member and a valve stem can be relieved by deflection of the second spring, output performance is not sacrificed by smoothing a valve (cam) lift curve, and the problem of increasing cost of a product by adopting an expensive material, is not caused by eliminating the necessity of reducing weight of a valve system.
