PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a characteristic word detecting method effective for a document containing erroneous recognition and an inputting error. SOLUTION: A degree of consistency between a word in the document and a significant word held in an important word holding means is calculated, so as to detect the characteristic word in the document, based on the degree of consistency. The document is morpheme-analyzed, the word for calculating the degree of consistency is a word not analyzed in the morpheme analysis. The degree of consistency is calculated by methods of the number of characters consistent between the words in the document and the significant words, a degree of similarity in compared characters and a combination thereof.
