PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which can easily specify selected items matching each operation. SOLUTION: It urges the user to specify either one of the selected items according to a 1st mode to show all the selections corresponding to each operation of a recording device at least, or a 2nd mode to show some limited ones of the above selections. When either one of the 1st and 2nd modes is not selected even when it is ready to accept the user's selection for each mode, it forces the user to select the 1st or 2nd mode.
