1,101,834. Tool-changing. GIDDINGS & LEWIS MACHINE TOOL CO. 28 Jan., 1966 [8 Feb., 1965], No. 3870/66. Headings B3B and B3K. Tool changing apparatus comprises a flanged tool 14 and a tool gripping member 34 having complementary convex teeth 50 and recesses 54 to position the tool relatively to the member. A boring, drilling or milling tool is removed from a magazine by the gripper 34 on a screwdriven shuttle 20. Tools are interchanged between the gripper and the tool spindle 15 by a double arm 21. The spindle 15, in a verticallyadjustable headstock 11, is movable axially for tool-changing. The flange 29 has a peripheral groove 31, recesses (30) to receive driving dogs on the spindle and opposite pairs of recesses 54. The gripper 34 has a jaw 36 pivoted to closed position by springs 38 and released by hydraulic means 39. If twin coaxial tool magazines are provided, the gripper 34 is adjustable vertically to select a tool from inner or outer positions. The recesses 54 on the flange engage teeth on each of the transfer members. In a modification, the teeth are carried by the flange. |
