882,950. Plutonium compounds; preventing occurrence of critical conditions. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 22, 1959], No. 2381/59. Class 39(4) Plutonium oxalate is precipitated by feeding plutonium nitrate solution and oxalic acid solution into a stirred vessel 6 maintained at about 80‹C., the mixture flows by gravity through cooler 9 to an intermediate point in a column 1 into which an upwardly flowing aqueous mixture of oxalic acid and nitric acid is introduced at 2, and plutonium oxalate is collected from the base 5 of the column. The process may be carried out continuously and without criticality hazard, provided the diameters of the columns and tubular vessels are limited. |
