Provided are water-soluble PVA fibers having practicable fiber properties such as good mechanical properties and chemical resistance not detracting from their original water-solubility, and a water-soluble nonwoven fabric comprising the fibers. The nonwoven fabric also has practicable properties such as good mechanical properties and chemical resistance, and has many applications, for example, for base fabrics for chemical lace. The water-soluble PVA fibers are reacted with from 0.01 to 5 mol% of an ionic group-having compound and satisfy the following relational formula in which Xcf (%) indicates the degree of crystallinity of the fibers and Wtb (DEG C) indicates the dissolving temperature in water of the fibers: Wtb < 2.50Xcf-70, wherein 30% ≤ Xcf ≤ 80%. |
