A motorcycle collision prevention apparatus comprises at least one rearward facing sensor and an associated warning means for use by the rider. In operation the sensor detects at least one movement characteristic of a vehicle approaching from the rear of the bike and when the characteristic exceeds a predetermined threshold level issues a warning to the rider through the warning means preferably indicating the direction of approach of the vehicle. The movement characteristic may include speed, acceleration, distance or angular displacement. The sensor may be directed rearward, angularly or move through an angular sector. Where three sensors are used the sensors may be deployed to the left 8, directly rearward 6 and to the right 10, each direction having an associated warning indicator 20, 18 and 22. The warning may also be given audibly through a speaker 16 or transmitted to a speaker which may be located in the riders helmet. |
