Mobile radio network of the 3GPP-type and operating method therefor

The network has implementations of a number of transcoder functions in an A/Gb mode in the transcoding and rate adaptation units or TRAUs and the media gateways or MGWs. A first subset of the transcoder functions is implemented exclusively in the radio network, i.e. in the TRAU, and a second in the core network, i.e. in the MGW : An independent claim is also included for a method of operating an inventive network.
