The method involves using an incremental rotary transducer whereby information about a rotary movement is supplied at least at the transducer resolution and selecting menu elements or setting values after call-up and display of a menu on a visual display screen. The movement of the rotary transducer is detected more finely than is determined by its resolution to eliminate an associated dead time in the control loop.
