The invention comprises metallisable disazo dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0886576/IV (c)/1> wherein X is a metallisable group or a group convertible thereto during metallisation, Y is a halogen atom and A is the radical of a naphthol mono- or poly-sulphonic acid coupling ortho to the hydroxyl group which may be further substituted and copper complexes thereof. They are prepared by tetrazotising a suitably substituted benzidine and coupling the tetrazonium compound, in alkaline medium, with 1 mol of a 6-halo-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid and 1 mol of a naphthol mono- or poly-sulphonic acid and coppering the disazo dyestuff so obtained in substance or on the fibre with aqueous copper salt solutions, preferably in the presence of ammonia or amines. They give blue shades on cellulose fibres. The following components are specified in examples: 3 : 31-dimethoxy- or -dicarboxy- or -dicarboxy-methoxy- or -dihydroxy-benzidine; 6-chloro- or -bromo-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid; 1-naphthol-3 : 8- or -4 : 8- or -3 : 6-disulphonic acid, 1-naphthol-3-sulphonic acid, 2-naphthol-4- or -6-mono- or -4 : 8- or -3 : 6-di-sulphonic acid, 6-chloro- or -bromo-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid, 1 : 8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3 : 6-disulphonic acid, 1-hydroxy-8-methoxy- or -ethoxy- or -cholor- or -amino- or -acetylamino-naphthalene-3 : 6-disulphonic acid and 1-hydroxy-8-amino- or -acetylamino-naphthalene-4 : 6-disulphonic acid. |
