Compounds which, per molecule, contain at least 2 benzazolyl groups are outstandingly suitable as UV absorbers for sunscreen compositions. The compounds may have the formula (I): (see formula I) wherein n is 2-6; m is 0 or 1; l is 0-4; z is a polyvalent organic radical; R1 is H, alkyl or the like; and R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each H, alkyl, SO3Y or the like; Y is H or a cation.
