Device for deviating a saw cable (13) comprises a support element through which the cable passes and a deviating element (2) connected to the support element. The deviating element has two guiding surfaces (18) extending perpendicular to the rotating axis (7) of a deviating roller (3) in a region covering the outer contour of the deviating roller. The distance between the guiding surfaces is larger than the cross-section of the cable and corresponds to the width of the deviating roller measured parallel to the rotating axis. Preferred Features: The guiding surfaces extend over 25-100% of the periphery of the deviating roller and are formed by closing elements (19) fixed to supporting arms (6). A saw cable protection roller (8) is arranged between the deviating roller and the receiving region and between the guiding surfaces.
