PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photography assisting device capable of lighting up a subject with a more uniform illumination distribution and stably acquiring illumination state. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the photography assisting device used to photograph a subject with a camera 3, and the photography assisting device is equipped with a plane light source 1 which irradiates a photographed area of the subject with light while the photographed area of the subject is covered and is translucent in the direction from the photographed area of the subject to the camera 3 and a light shielding hood 2 which reduces incidence of ambient light on the photographed area of the subject. Then an upper tip opening part 2a of the light shielding hood 2 functions as a camera support supporting the camera 3 so that the subject and camera 3 are held at a fixed interval.
