PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an accurate glass cylinder having improved shape dimensional accuracy in a short period of time. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a glass cylinder comprises: a means for providing a slit on a ridge line where an arc crosses a straight line in a polygonal metallic mold formed by combining the arc having an outside diameter fixed every other side and the straight line and discharging air in the metallic mold to the outside through the slit in the molding of the glass to easily fit the glass on the surface of the metallic mold to improve the outside diameter accuracy in the arc side thereby dispensing with outside diameter grinding; and a means for obtaining accurate dimension in the grinding of the inside diameter by using a fixing tool having an inside shape similar to the outside shape of the polygonal glass cylinder with the addition of the thickness of wax and rotating after the glass cylinder is inserted into the fixing tool to bring the ridge line of the glass cylinder into contact with the straight line of the inside wall of the fixing tool to accurately align the glass cylinder with the fixing tool.
