PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress that the tip part of a screw feeder for supplying a raw material to a glass melting furnace is heated by radiant heat in the melting furnace. SOLUTION: In the method of cooling the outer cylinder tip part 3 of the screw feeder for supplying the raw material in a hopper to the glass melting furnace from a discharge port 14 of the outer cylinder tip part 3 by a screw assembled in an outer cylinder 2, the outer cylinder tip part 3 substantially except the discharge port 14 is surrounded by a cover 4 to form a sealed gap part 15 between the outer cylinder tip part 3 and the cover 4 and the outer cylinder tip part 3 is cooled by supplying air to the gap part 15.
