PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve seal performance of a fuel cell, thereby to overcome the problem faced by the structure of a conventional fuel cell, in which seal pressure changes depending on the amount of liquid seal applied, for example, when the amount of liquid seal is too small, sufficient sealing is not performed due to insufficient seal pressure, and when the amount of liquid seal is to large, the cell performs worse due to increased electric resistance caused by insufficient surface pressure between separators and electrodes.
SOLUTION: A fuel cell is configured such that the outside of bonded elements of membrane electrodes, which comprise a solid high molecule electrolyte film 1 sandwiched by a pair of electrodes 3, 5, is further sandwiched by a pair of separators 7, 9. The solid high molecule electrolyte film 1 is provided with a protrusion 1a that protrudes from peripheral portions 3a, 5a of the electrodes 3, 5. Seal members 11 are provided between the protrusion 1a and the separators 7, 9. Three pieces each of projections 13 are provided on the surfaces opposite to separator 7 of a separator supporting portion 11 in parallel across the perimeter along periphery portions 3a, 5a of the electrodes 3, 5. Each projection 13 has a triangular shape in cross section tapering from the base end towards the front end. Recessed portions 15 are provided on each of the separators 7, 9 that have shapes to correspond to the projections 13 such that they fit to one another.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
