<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for detecting a failure in an image forming apparatus, which can enhance processing efficiency of image formation by eliminating the more false detection or wrong diagnosis of a failure caused by a noise etc., especially, the more false detection or wrong diagnosis of the failure requiring the initialization of memory and the re-turning-on of the power. <P>SOLUTION: A type of an error, which can occur in each of the statuses of the image forming apparatus and is classified into a plurality of types, is managed by a table management part 35. When an error diagnosis part 33 detects the error in the image forming apparatus, an error determination part 34 acquires the status of the image forming apparatus, which is stored by a status memory 32, refers to the type of the error, stored in the management part 35, and determines that the detected error is a falsely detected error, in the case where the type of the error capable of occurring in the acquired status does not correspond to that of the detected error. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
