PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide various products for a high quality sliding member which secures the strength necessary for the sliding member such as a seal ring, is excellent in sliding characteristics and productivity and is free from crack and chipping.

SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing the porous ceramic sintered compact for sliding member comprises: a process for obtaining powdery raw material by mixing ceramic powder, compacting assistant, a resin bead comprising suspension-polymerized non-cross-linked polystyrene or styrene-acrylic copolymer; a process for obtaining a ceramic compact having a prescribed shape by molding the powdery raw material; and a process for degreasing, heating and sintering the ceramic compact.
