<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a sintered compact having excellent thermal conductivity, and to provide the sintered compact having excellent thermal conductivity. <P>SOLUTION: The method of producing a sintered compact comprises: a compacting stage where a composition comprising a fibrous carbon based substance 2 and a metal-containing thermally conductive substance 3 is compacted into a prescribed shape to obtain a molded body; and a firing stage where the molded body is fired, and each fibrous carbon-based substance 2 is mutually joined via the thermally conductive substance 3 to obtain a fired body.
