<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately inspect zippers by distinguishing a state of normal engagement from a deviated state in the zippers. <P>SOLUTION: A zipper inspection region is specified (ST1). A section having an amount of X-ray transmission lower than that of X-ray transmission data of a packaging material is detected from among X-ray transmission data within the zipper inspection region, and a region surrounded with the contour of a region formed by the section is determined as a zipper region on the basis of the contour (ST2). The presence or absence of linearity in the X-ray transmission data within the zipper region is determined (ST3). When the linearity is absent (ST4), it is determined that an object to be inspected W is a defective item (ST5). When the linearity is present (ST6), and only one straight line is present within the zipper region (ST7), it is determined that the object to be inspected is a conforming item (ST8) .
