PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston compressor simple in design, characterized by high efficiency, and applicable to various types of implements. SOLUTION: This piston compressor is formed of at least one cylinder 2, and a reciprocating piston 4 forms two operating chambers 10 and 12 in the cylinder on both sides of the piston. Each of them comprises at least one of inlet openings and outlet openings. and also comprises, at each opening, a cylinder for operating inlet valves 20 and 22 or outlet valves 24 and 26 and a drive device moving the piston.
