PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize supplying of a high-voltage pulse of, for example, 12 kV having abrupt rise time and a very narrow pulse width at a low DC power supply voltage, for example of, about 12 V with a simple circuit configuration, without using a plurality of semiconductor switches to which a high voltage is applied. SOLUTION: A pulse generator 10 includes a high-voltage pulse generator 14, which converts the capacitive energy stored in a capacitor 20 into inductive energy by the switching operations of first and second semiconductor switches 26 and 28 to be outputted as high-voltage pulses, and a step-up chopper circuit 16 connected to the front stage of the high-voltage pulse generator 14, to supply the energy to the capacitor 20 of the high-voltage pulse generator 14 by a switching operation of the semiconductor switch 54.
