PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine start system 1 capable of performing idling operation with regarding engine efficiency as important to optimizing a operation state of an engine 2 and a charge state of a battery when engine start is performed by remote operation. SOLUTION: An engine ECU calculates distance between a transmitter 3 and a receiver 5 based on position signal transmitted by the transmitter 3 and controls idling rotation speed after engine start according to the distance. For example, when distance between a vehicle and an occupant having the transmitter 3 is long, fuel economy can be improved, insufficient charge of a battery 8 can be eliminated and comfortable room temperature can be secured before the occupant rides the vehicle by setting idling rotation speed in a zone of high engine efficiency.
