PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for detecting abnormality of engine air intake system for a construction machine capable of accurately detecting abnormality of engine air intake system such as defect of a supercharger and leak of air intake pipe. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a rotation speed sensor N detecting rotation speed of an engine 11, an angle sensor A detecting fuel injection quantity of the engine 11, a pressure sensor P detecting supercharging pressure of the engine 11, and an engine abnormality detection device 13 calculating a first load rate of the engine 11 with using engine speed detected by the rotation speed sensor N and fuel injection quantity detected by the angle sensor A and calculating a second load rate of the engine 11 with using supercharging pressure detected by the pressure sensor P and calculating deviation between the first load rate and the second load rate and determining abnormality if the calculated deviation is larger than a predetermined value.
