PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a height adjusting device for a vehicle capable of accomplishing the device in a lightweight construction and a low output from its rotational drive part. SOLUTION: An unsprung member 6 coupled with the bottom of a supporting spring 16 is moved up and down by a towing means 20 arranged so that the sprung load is not applied, and thereby the vehicle height adjustment is conducted. The towing means is arranged parallel with the deflecting direction of the supporting spring and is equipped with a wire 22 coupled with one side of the unsprung member, a reel 22, a resilient member having a lower spring constant than the supporting spring to absorb the slack of the wire, and the rotational drive part 26 to give a torque to the reel. The reel has an outside shape such that the distance between the position where the winding-fast of the wire starts and the rotational center of the reel varies according to the rotation of the reel and is arranged so that the wire is wound fast with a greater distance when absorbing the slack of the wire in following-up after the vertical stroke of the unsprung member than when the vehicle height adjustment is made upon giving a torque to the reel by the rotational drive part.
