A foldable device capable of being folded into a compact form for convenient handling or storage, and unfolded into a deployed form for producing an extended supporting surface for supporting various objects. The foldable device includes a plurality of at least four sections hingedly mounted to each other. Each of the sections is of equal width and length such that the sections, in their folded compact form, take the shape of a hexahedron. Each section includes a peripheral wall of sufficient height to provide a relatively large peripheral surface which, in the unfolded deployed form of the section, is brought into abutment with the like peripheral surfaces of the contiguous sections to provide a support for the extended supporting surface. Described are a number of constructions of such a foldable device, including its use as a board game (chess, checkers, etc.), as a foldable table, and as a foldable mattress. |
