The spindle device is fitted to a machine tool, with a double path system (s1,s2) for supplying air and liquid through the spindle, and equipment (33) for generating a mist. The latter is ejected in a stream after mixing the liquid and the air. The equipment is arranged in the front end of the spindle, or in a tool holder. The device may also have a bypass path, in order to link the air supply path to the space on the ejection side of the equipment. An opening and closing mechanism is arranged halfway along the bypass path, and is held open if the pressure of the generated mist is less than or equal to a fixed pressure level.
