A data processing apparatus (100) can reproduce contents stored in a predetermined area of a recoding medium (4). The recoding medium (4) stores content data and management information by which to manage the content data. If a content is to be reproduced which is managed by the management information on the recoding medium (4) but which is not existent, as entity data, in the predetermined area of the recoding medium (4), the data processing apparatus (100) uses a searching part (6) to search other areas of the recoding medium (4) for the content. If the corresponding content is found, then a link information setting part (7) sets link information (symbolic link, shortcut, or the like) on the recoding medium (4) such that the corresponding content can be accessed from the management information.
