<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handheld bar code scanner which can read a bar code having a configuration digit number wider than a reading opening, and has two kinds of reading methods. <P>SOLUTION: The scanner 1 has a changeover switch 9, and depending on depression of the changeover switch 9, switches, for the bar code 3, between a touch scan mode which irradiates with a linear light from an entire light source 4 and reads the bar code 3, and a slide scan mode which irradiates with a point-like light only from a part of the light source 4, moves the light by sliding, from one end of the bar code 3 to its other end and reads the bar code 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
