PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for driving the solid-state imaging device, in which a reverse transfer of charge in a vertical CCD will not occur, the reverse flow of charge from a horizontal transferring part to the vertical CCD will not occur, a storage time of a sub signal charge is long and a dynamic range is large, with respect to a CCD drive by which a charge is read out twice in the vertical blanking interval and a mix of signal charges in different lines is performed in each field. SOLUTION: A signal charge is read out byΦV5, transferred fromΦV5 toΦV4, in the direction ofΦV5→ΦV2→ΦV3→ΦV4, and mixed it with a signal charge read out byΦV1. A horizontal transfer part 5 is not activated during this period. A signal charge is read byΦV1 in another field, transferred fromΦV1 toΦV4, in the direction ofΦV1→ΦV2→ΦV3→ΦV4, and mixed it with a signal charge read byΦV5. The horizontal transfer part 5 is not activated during this period. An upper vertical dummy of the CCD and an optical black OB, and a next field signal charge are read together, and a period allocated to a sub signal charge storage within the vertical blanking interval is set long, by high-speed transfer of a lower vertical dummy and the OB.
