PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp, of high brightness, equipped with electrodes with the supply of easily electron-emitting matter to the tip made constant, with excellent electron emission characteristics, and capable of sustaining a stable operation for long period of time. SOLUTION: Of the discharge lamp provided with a sealed light-transmitting vessel and a pair of opposing electrodes in the vessel electrically connected with each other through a sealing part airtightly sealed to the light-transmitting vessel, at least either of the electrodes made of a high melting point metal has an airtight room inside with the easily electron-emitting matter sealed, and there remains a space inside the airtight room where the easily electron-emitting matter is not yet filled.
