PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of controlling power supplied to a lamp and the revolving speed of a fan by judging circumstances with integration inside a projector housing by a plurality of sensors. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal projector 1 is a three-panel type one equipped with liquid crystal panels 13 respectively corresponding to respective colors R, G and B. Electronic parts 11, the lamp 12, the liquid crystal panels 13, a dichroic prism 14 and a projection lens 15 are incorporated in the projector housing. A fan 16 is attached to an exhaust hole 19 provided on the back of the projector housing. A pressure sensor 17 is installed on the exhaust side of the fan 16 in the exhaust hole 19, and air pressure inside the projector housing is monitored according to an output signal from the sensor 17. Whether abnormality is found in the pressure is judged by the sensor 17, and the power supplied to the lamp is lowered to decrease the brightness of the lamp or the power supplied to the lamp is cut off to forcibly turn off the lamp according to an output value from the sensor.
