PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine provided with a starting device preventing un-burnt fuel from being discharged to the atmosphere. SOLUTION: When idling stop control is started (step S20), fuel is injected into a combustion chamber just before stop of the engine and ECU controls a fuel injection valve and a motor generator to stop a piston at a predetermined position. After that, the ECU monitors whether an ignition switch is turned on or not until engine re-start conditions are established (step S30, step S40). The ECU performs un-burnt air fuel mixture processing control at an appropriate timing if the ignition switch is turned off without the engine re-start conditions are not established (step S60). Namely the ECU performs control to scavenge air fuel mixture including fuel supplied in the combustion chamber 1 at a time of engine stop. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
