<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high frequency heating balloon catheter that assuredly eliminates a temperature gap between an upper part and a lower part in a balloon caused by convection heat, evenly heats tissue coming into contact with the balloon at an optimum temperature, and safely provides thermotherapy to an affected part. <P>SOLUTION: The high frequency heating balloon catheter is characterized by comprising a catheter shaft (3) consisting of an outer cylindrical shaft (1) and an inner cylindrical shaft (2); a balloon (4) having a shape capable of coming into contact with a target lesion (41) in an inflated state and being arranged between the leading end part of the outer cylindrical shaft and the vicinity of the leading end part of the inner cylindrical shaft; a high frequency energizing electrode (6) capable of transmitting high frequency power and arranged inside the wall of the balloon or inside the balloon; a lead wire (7) connected electrically to the high frequency energizing electrode; a temperature sensor (8) capable of monitoring temperature inside the balloon; and vortex creating means (12:16 and 20) circulating a fluid in the balloon between the upper and lower parts and creating vortexes in order to eliminate the temperature gap between the upper and lower parts in the balloon caused by convection heat in the fluid introduced into the balloon. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
