PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmission device for receiving either of two kinds of return video data having a data rate different from each other, and sending serial video data having a data rate common to the received return video data for transmission. SOLUTION: The device comprises PS (Parallel/Serial) transformation portions 26A-26D, and a data rate discrimination portion 40. The P/S transformation portions 26A-26D obtain serial video data according to word sequence data from a video data sending portion 11. The data rate discrimination portion 40 receives return video data having either a first data rate or a second data rate, and discriminates the data rate of the return video data, and sends out a control signal for designating the serial video data from the P/S transformation portions 26A-26D as the one having the first data rate if the return video data has the first data rate or as the one having the second data rate if the return video data has the second data rate.
