In a motor car &c., a splined shaft 2 is mounted for reciprocal movement within a splined cylinder 5, a tubular casing 7 at the end of the cylinder forming a ring-shaped chamber 10 containing lubricant which the axial movement of the shaft pumps to and from a similar ring-shaped space 11 beyond the splines. The chamber 10 and the space 11 are of effectively equal volume, to prevent lubricant from being forced out of the cylinder &c. One of the splines may be omitted, to facilitate transfer of lubricant. Sealing rings 12, 15 are provided between the sliding parts. |
