A method for fitting a rotating tool onto a spindle has the rear of the tool fitted with a fixed sleeve (9) with an internal thread (10) to fit onto the threaded end (3) of a spindle (2). A rapid fitting nut (4) provides a clamped grip between the spindle and the tool. The nut has two thrust rings (13, 14) whose relative axial position is adjustable by turning an outer grip ring (15). The thrust rings have inner hexagonal apertures (20) to fit onto a hexagonal section (21) of the spindle without rotational freedom. The user fits the tool onto the threaded part of the spindle and twists the knurled outer ring of the coupling nut to clamp the thrust faces between the tool and the spindle. This provides two torque paths between the spindle and the tool, one through the thread and one between the thrust faces,.
|
