摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an video display device capable of reducing the influence of optical aberration and suppressing the occurrence of illumination irregularity. <P>SOLUTION: The video display device is provided with: an illumination means (a light emitting area dividing light source 20, an optical directivity separating optical element 21 and a light diffusion element 22) for emitting a 1st beam and a 2nd beam to at least two different directions in a time division state; and a transmission type display element 23 capable of displaying a 1st video using the 1st beam emitted from the illumination means as a light source and a 2nd video using the 2nd beam as a light source in a time division state. The illumination means is constituted of arraying a plurality of illumination units each of which includes a plurality of light sources capable of selectively emitting light in the time division state and an optical element unit arranged oppositely to these light sources and capable of making each beam emitted from a light source on a different position incident and projecting the light to a direction corresponding to each position. Each light source for selectively emitting light to the optical element unit of one illumination unit in order to emit the 1st and 2nd beams is a light source included in the other illumination unit different from the illumination unit concerned. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
