PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology enabling surely starting a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine started by injecting fuel into a cylinder in a expansion stroke and burning the fuel. SOLUTION: In start of the cylinder injection type internal combustion engine, pre-combustion which is relatively small scale combustion is performed in a cylinder at first (S111) when a position of a piston in the cylinder in a expansion stroke is in a regulated range, after that, main combustion which is a larger scale combustion than the pre-combustion is performed (S113) during the cylinder is in the expansion stroke.
