PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lactone type polyester monool or a lactone type polyester monocarboxylic acid that is a liquid at room temperature, which is useful as a dispersant little in the contents of low molecular weight compounds, as well as to provide a manufacturing method for the same. SOLUTION: The lactone type polyester monool or lactone type polyester monocarboxylic acid is obtained by subjecting at least two kinds of cyclic lactone compounds to esterification reaction using a monohydroxy compound or monocarboxylic acid compound as an initiator. The manufacturing method therefor comprises: the first step wherein at least two kinds of the cyclic lactone compounds, the monohydroxy compounds or monocarboxylic acid compounds, and an esterification catalyst are added in the reaction system and allowed to proceed with the esterification reaction of the cyclic lactone compounds until a predetermined reaction rate is reached; and the second step wherein the reaction liquid is continuously supplied to a film evaporator to form a thin film, to evaporate the low molecular weight compounds and to remove them out of the system.
