Inhibitors against members of the heat shock protein 90 (hsp90) family, containing as the active ingredient benzenoid ansamycin derivatives represented by the general formula (I) which are useful as antitumor drug or other drugs or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof: (I) wherein R<2> is hydrogen or methyl; R<11> and R<18> may be the same or different from each other and are each hydroxy, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkoxy, or substituted or unsubstituted lower alkanoyloxy; and R<17> is hydrogen, hydroxy, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkoxy, or substituted or unsubstituted lower alkanoyloxy.
