An optical recording medium comprises a main information area provided by forming a metal reflective film on a substrate where a pit array as main data is formed and a sub information area which is provided by partially removing the metal reflective film and thereby forming a plurality of reflective film removed area so as to record medium identification information for identifying the optical recording medium. Information is reproduced by applying a light beam to the metal reflective film. In the sub information area, a pit array or a guide groove is formed in the substrate. The track pitch of the pit array or guide groove is 0.24 to 0.45 mum.
