<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing method by which charge-up or blotches of a particulate toner is prevented even in a different environment, an appropriate charge amount is imparted to the toner, problems such as decrease in image density, fog, image defect such as scattering of characters, stripes or irregularity in a solid image, melt sticking of the toner on a sleeve, or the like can be prevented, and a high-quality black image can be stably obtained, and to provide a developing apparatus using the above method. <P>SOLUTION: The developer comprises a magnetic toner containing at least a binder resin and a magnetic material and having 5 to 12 μm particle size. The magnetic material consists of iron oxide particles having 0.1 to 0.3 μm particle size and containing 0.3 to 1.5 mass% titanium. A developer carrier has at least a base body and a resin coating layer, wherein the coating layer contains at least a binder resin and particles having 1 to 30 μm particle size for forming a rugged surface, and the average A and the standard deviation σ of the universal hardness of the surface of the coating layer obtained from distribution of the measured hardness satisfy 100≤A≤800 [N/mm<SP>2</SP>] and 30≤σ≤90 [N/mm<SP>2</SP>], respectively. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
