<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which an image for preventing a cleaning blade from being curled is formed such that a wasteful consumption of toner is restrained in order to prevent curling. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus transfers a toner image developed on an image carrier to a recording medium and removes residual toner on the image carrier with the cleaning blade. The image forming apparatus includes a means for forming a pattern image for gradation control; a means for detecting the density of the pattern image; and a gradation control means for exerting the gradation control in accordance with the result of the detection by the density detection means. The pattern image is formed such that toner with which the pattern image of a particular number of times is formed is spread over almost all the area in the lengthwise direction of the cleaning blade. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
