PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a woven and knitted fabric made of polybenzazole fiber that causes a low level of strength degradation even when it is exposed to high temperature and high humidity conditions for a long period of time, particularly provide woven and knitted fabric that is to be used for producing a fiber structure constituting protection material, protection clothes and industrial material. SOLUTION: An organic pigment that has high heat resistance with a thermal decomposition temperature of≥200°C and dissolves in mineral acid, preferably bears -N= and/or NH- groups in its molecular structure, particularly perinone and/or perylene, phthalocyanine or quinacridone is included in the fiber thereby polybenzazole fiber having a strength retention rate of≥80% is obtained after the fiber is twisted at a twist factor of 30, then the twist coefficient is loosened to 6 after 30 seconds and then treated under the conditions of a temperature of 80°C and a relative humidity of 80% for 240 hours. The high-strength fiber made of polybenzazole with a strength retention rate of≥80% is at least partially used to produce woven or knitted fabrics. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
