PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp capable of easily starting discharge. SOLUTION: The electrodeless discharge lamp is provided with an air-tight container 2 having a recessed part 1 and sealed with gas to be discharged inside thereof, and an induction coil 3 inserted into the recessed part 1 to generate an induction electric field inside the air-tight container 2, and high-frequency current is turned on in the induction coil 3 to form a high-frequency electromagnetic field inside the air-tight container 2 to excite the gas sealed inside the air-tight container 2. A conductive film 7 is provided in a surface inside the recessed part 1 sealed with the gas. With this structure, when the high-frequency current at 135 kHz is turned on in the induction coil 3, an electric field is generated between the induction coils 3, and initial electron is increased by the electric field to start discharge, but in the case wherein the conductive film 7 is provided in the surface of the recessed part 1, since a strong electric field is generated between an upper end or a lower end of the induction coil 3 and the conductive film 7, initial electron is easy to be increased to easily start discharge.
