<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display method capable of automatically setting a display effect suitable for a photograph on the basis of information specific to the individual photograph, in a slide show, and to provide a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: When executing the slide show of an image after acquiring at least one piece of image data thereon, a characteristic area of a face or the like of the image is detected, and the display effect is selected from a plurality of predetermined display effects on the basis of a size of the characteristic area and/or the number of the characteristic areas.
